Sweet Giggles
I was singing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" to Scarlett during her bath and apparently I am the funniest person she knows. When I started making the "quack quack" sound for the ducks on his farm, she started laughing hysterically. There's just nothing better than a giggly baby!

Breathable Baby
I posted a little rant about bumper pads a while back because I had read an article that detailed the fatal hazards of bumper pads, got really scared, and took Scarlett's off. Well, about two days after that I realized why bumper pads were invented. Without the bumper pad she really didn't want to nap. She knew she could now watch for me through her crib bars. Then I would hear these frantic screams through the monitor and would find her ankle or arm hanging out of the crib twisted so that she couldn't get them out. It was a disaster to say the least.
I knew I couldn't continue to use her original bumper because it was extra plush (suffocation hazard) and the ties were only on the top (not secure enough) and were way too long (strangulation hazard).
Then my friend Aubrey told me about the Breathable Baby Bumpers she found. They are great! They have no ties, but instead secure onto the crib with velcro. Also, they are made out of mesh so if a baby does decide to snuggle up against one, there is no suffocation hazard. So far I love the bumper! It fits the crib very securely and pulls nice and tight. It also makes changing the sheet so much easier. And it keeps those little limbs nice and safe inside the crib! I bought it online at Wal-Mart and Babies R US sells them too. Here's what it looks like:

6 Month Check-Up
Scarlett's 6 month check-up was this past Friday. Of course I dreaded the 4 shots she had to get but was glad to hear that there won't be any vaccinations at her 9 month visit.
At this stage Scarlett weighs....drum roll please...... 20 pounds and 7 ounces! No, your eyes aren't deceiving you and that was not a typo! She is 27 1/2 inches long which apparently is really long for her age as well. These numbers place her above the 95th percentile for her age which means you would have a hard time finding a bigger 6 month old than her! Dr. Lanman says there is no concern; she's just a big baby! Especially since her length is keeping up with her weight. I think it's quite a hoot!
One of Scarlett's biggest recent developments is her ability to sit up unsupported. She also loves to hear her voice and has this high pitched scream that she loves to hear most of all...yippee for us. And you won't believe this, but she really can make the "d" "m" and "b" sounds so some of her babbling sounds a lot like "dada" and "mamma."
This is a fun, fun stage, and we are just in awe of our little angel. I never imagined that parenthood would be this rewarding.

Happy Helmet Day!
Scarlett now has her helmet. When they first put it on her, she didn't seem to mind. She does reach up and grab at it every once in a while, but she seems able to forget it's there most of the time. She won't have to sleep over night in it until Friday, and I think that will be the biggest battle we'll have. But until then, I think it's going to be ok. Poor baby, she's such a little trooper. She's been through a lot so far!
Here we are at Cranial Technologies this morning after they first put it on.
Later today at the park with Auntie, London, and Lily
We're going to monitor her progress ourselves as well by taking weekly pictures. Here's her little flat head today:

Crazy Hats
Scarlett will get her helmet tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how she reacts to having something attached to her all day, and I had a great idea this morning as I was unpacking her clothes and weeding out summer items and items that are too small. I realized she has so many cute summer hats she really never wore. I decided it was a great time to get her ready to have something on her head so we tried them all on and had a photo shoot. Mainly, I just had a good laugh. It's fun that she's still in that stage where I can dress her up whether she wants me to or not!
