The Show Must Go On

Last week was the absolute pits. I was sick with an upper respiratory infection (nope, not the swine flu), and I felt horrible. This is the worst I've felt since I've had Scarlett I think, and her little 17 month old mind just didn't understand why mommy was laying around for days.

The first day, she liked laying on the couch with me to watch her shows while I snoozed on and off, but that didn't really last long. Luckily Chris stayed home from work two mornings, but when it was just me and Scarlett, it was really hard! I remember back in the day when a "sick day" from work meant sleeping on the couch and watching movies for hours and hours. Well, those days are LONG over to say the least!

I had to make myself get up (pounding head, throbbing ears, burning chest, sore throat and all) to play with little miss. When she would actually play alone in her room, I would go peek in on her to find a complete mess. Drawers emptied, toys everywhere, and clothes pulled off of hangers. She was rebelling I think! It was so sad when she would literally try to pull me up off the couch. She would cry and plead, "Outside!" (Because that's all she wants to do these days.)

Well, thankfully I'm feeling so much better now, and things are getting back to normal. Here's two pictures I was able to get of her during the rebellion!

Everything came out so she could go in...

I found her just standing in front of the mirror like this...perhaps she would like to be a ghost for Halloween!

Good-Bye Summer

Tomorrow is the first day of fall! We have had such a fun summer even though we didn't travel to any exotic places. We are planning our first beach trip for next summer so we do have that to look forward to. Lately, we've been just trying to adjust to our schedule now that Chris has started a new school year. It can be stressful for us because I work part time a night still and on the nights I work, it's a fast switch. He walks in the door, and I walk out! I'm thankful that I have another year home with Scarlett. The sacrifices are all worth it. Scarlett and I have also started attending a toddler/parent music class at church. It's a lot of fun. Here's what else we've been up to lately!

Playing with cousins! We see my sister and her kiddos at least once a week. They love playing with each other. The other night I was responsible for all three of these wild little girls!

Watching the rain! It rained for about nine days straight recently!

Going to the park! This is by far my favorite park in our area. It has a great playground with a lot of stuff for her age group, and it has a splash pad too! We recently went with Chris's mom, aka Mimi. Scarlett could stay there all day I think!

Quote of the Day

Scarlett: (Upon realizing there were no pacifiers to be found no matter where she looked because unbeknownst to her, mommy had hidden them all)
"Paaaci! Where arrrre you?"

I don't know about you,

but we're ready for fall around here!

On a trip to Old Navy, I just couldn't resist getting some fall shirts, jeans, and shoes for Scarlett. Now if the weather would just cooperate so she can actually wear them!

Lately...

Over the past couple of weeks Scarlett has been:

Demanding to feed herself...

Increasing her vocabulary...
Scarlett says phrases now like, "I see you!" and "Where are you?" and "Oh, look at that!" Everything lately is "Mommy" this or "Mommy" that. She also enjoys telling her kitties (and for that matter, me) "No, No!" My favorite right now is the way she says, "thank you" every time you hand her something or when she hands you something!

Enjoying computer games like this...

Playing dress-up with anything she can get her hands on...

And I mean anything...

Enjoying the park...

Gobbling up fresh chocolate chip cookies...

Counting...
When counting to ten, Scarlett does a pretty good job! I have witnesses! If you say "One" she says "Two" and so on. She especially enjoys saying "Six" and "Eight". "Seven" is cutest because it sounds more like "Sewen"!

Wearing random pj combinations that only a father could pick out...

And babbling....

When Scarlett isn't saying her words, she babbles. It's pretty much non stop all day at this point. I like to call it her Swahili! Here's the best clip I could capture. Of course, she never likes to do anything for the camera.
